Early Oregon years, 1916 (jpg)
The Tarlow-Edleson-Goldeen clan in Oregon, 1916. James Ashrow and Milton escaped from the Ukraine together as stowaways aboard a grain ship that departed from Feodosia in 1910. Prior to the escape, Mary (Marochka) Prensky married Milton, and then followed him to the United States. Mary tragically died in 1921 at age 31. Elvin was their only child (pictured here at age 4). As this photograph shows, the family clearly prospered in America.
